How is the Library’s collection budget spent?
Answer
The Library, Museums and Press supports access to a wide range of information resources across formats through a carefully managed collections budget. More than 79% of this budget is committed to ongoing resources that underpin teaching and research across campus, including journal packages and licensed databases. To sustain access while addressing cost pressures, we employ a range of strategies such as consortium-based purchasing, rigorous vendor negotiations, and multi-year licensing agreements. When a resource is considered for cancellation, we consider its overall cost, the number of uses over several fiscal years, and the average cost per use. If a resource has a disproportionately high cost per use, we may cancel it in order to concentrate our limited resources on current and evolving academic priorities.
